Our M.P.P. occupies a unique place among international affairs graduate programs. The four-course core curriculum, which is interdisciplinarity, gives students an intellectual base that focuses on learning the concepts, ways of thinking, and leadership skills necessary for success in global issues. The small core enables students to think of and explore solutions to the global problems they are passionate about and provides them with the ability to design a unique curriculum around those questions by taking advantage of the vast array of classes and resources available at Jackson and throughout the University.
The M.P.P. program is designed to be small and has about 35 students in each class. With various experiences and backgrounds, Jackson’s graduate students create an intimate, close-knit group. Our size and style make for a lively atmosphere because students become a source to one another and an opportunity to see the variety and complex nature of the field of global affairs.
Our students graduate from the Jackson School with lifelong connections to their colleagues all over the world in the nonprofit, public and private sectors across a variety of fields, including security analysis, policy analysis, trade and economic development, as well as human rights, foreign affairs as well as international finance and environmental policy. About Yale Emerging Climate Leaders Fellowship
The Yale Emerging Climate Leaders Fellowship provides a chance for the 16 young energy and climate professionals from the Global South to broaden their technical knowledge, strengthen connections to professional circles, and share opinions with the top global clean leaders in climate and energy.
This brand-new, eight-month initiative, based at Yale’s International Leadership Center and involving partners across the University — will begin in the fall of 2022.
This fellowship of eight months will conclude with a week-long in-person stay in Paris which will run from June 26 through June 30, 2023.
Fellows will interact with leading international climate change experts, share their perspectives gained throughout the course, and build contacts with colleagues and friends through exchanging ideas.
Fellows will participate in engaging sessions with notable Yale experts and faculty members to define the parameters guiding the global discussion on climate change.
Fellows will have the opportunity to network with staff members of organizations like the International Energy Agency and the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), French municipal and central government officials, as well as representatives from civil society groups and think tanks, academics as well as companies in the private sector.
Fellows will also present suggestions on specific climate and clean energy issues to the Global Advisory Board, publish the results on a dedicated website, and keep in touch through an alum community.
Topics that could be discussed include:
- Improving global climate change governance and governance around climate change, including the u.n. process
- Looking at decarbonization strategies, such as options for decarbonization, including iea net zero 2050 scenario
- Growing renewable energy production and addressing the challenges of system integration
- Increasing the pace of innovation and adoption of promising green energy technologies
- Promoting energy efficiency and behavior shifts
- Examining the challenges of an energy transition that is people-centered
- Creating and deepening financial instruments to help advance the transition to clean energy.
- Looking into market-based climate instruments, including carbon pricing
- Examining regulatory tools to facilitate the use of renewable energy technologies
- Improved communication on climate change
- Closing access to energy gaps using renewable energy technologies
- Creating cost-effective negative emission techniques, such as direct air capture
- Studying the role of nature-based solutions to climate change
- Broadening and enhancing investment and corporate initiatives in climate change
- Addressing energy security issues that affect energy security, such as the role played by fossil fuels and the transition to energy
- Investigating supply chain issues and the geopolitical issues of the transition to clean energy.
- Examining the challenge in reducing emissions of methane in developing and emerging nations.
How to Apply for Yale Emerging Climate Leaders Fellowship
The process for applying to Climate Fellows Program is done entirely online. There aren’t any paper forms to fill in or send in.
There is no application fee or additional cost to apply or take part. The entire cost of fellows’ participation in Yale Orientation week and Paris closing week will be paid for through the fellowship program (round-trip flights, hotels transfer, per-diem and hotels).
In the days before the closing date, you can make changes to your application at any point and submit it once you are prepared. After creating an account and logging into an online form, you can upload your documents and request a letter of recommendation.
The applicants must provide the following:
- A resume/curriculum vitae (maximum three pages).
- A personal essay (maximum 600 words).
- One note of reference.
Candidates may also opt to provide a video of a short statement.
Conditions for Eligibility
- Candidates must be between five to ten years into their professional careers and have demonstrable achievements on an individual, national or international scale. Although there isn’t an age limit, however, they are seeking young leaders who can help launch the program.
- Candidates must represent those from the Global South. They look forward to welcoming diverse representation from emerging Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America/Caribbean.
- The applicants must be proficient in English. Good knowledge of language skills in the English language is necessary for taking part in the program.
- Climate Fellows must be present in person for the two weeks during the program. These include the Yale Orientation week, which runs from November 28 until December 2, 2022, and the Paris closing week, which runs from June 26 until June 30, 2023. Fellows should also be available for the ten learning trips to be conducted online between January 2023 and May 2023.
Selection Criteria for Yale Emerging Climate Leaders Fellowship
- A track record of accomplishment in a field linked to green energy and climate change. They seek to identify a diverse group of Fellows from multiple stakeholder groups, from government officials, industry regulators, entrepreneurs, energy company/utility professionals, bankers/financiers, journalists, educators/researchers, civil society representatives, legislators, legal advisors to consultants.
- A commitment to create an impact on the national, local, or international scale.
- Promised a career as a leader at the international and perhaps even the national level.
- A desire to expand and strengthen professional networks and gain exposure to world-class leaders on climate and clean energy.
